Carnival festivities will be held every Sunday in February in the following towns: La Vega, Santiago, Bonao and Puerto Plata. Santo Domingo’s National Carnival is set for March 3, and Punta Cana’s colorful event for March 9.

Punta Cana

The Sixth Annual Carnival Parade will take place on March 9. Some 15 colorful floats and some 1,500 national and international guests are expected to participate in the event.

The carnival festivities will take place on one of Punta Cana’s most important avenues, “Boulevard Primero de Noviembre,” in Puntacana Village.

Festivities will start at 3:30 pm. Representatives from Aruba, Curacao, Haiti and St. Martin, as well as representatives from 15 provinces of the Dominican Republic will participate.

Punta Cana’s Carnival Gala is scheduled for Friday, March 8, in Puntacana Galleries. A live concert will top the main event. This particular carnival is sponsored by the Puntacana Group, and is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism.

Santo Domingo

The National Carnival Parade, in Santo Domingo, will hold on March 3 and will be dedicated to southwest Dominican city of Baní. This is by far the country’s most important carnival parade, and is traditionally held in Santo Domingo’s seaside boulevard. The majestic Caribbean Sea will be the carnival’s backdrop.

La Vega

The iconic La Vega Carnival, a solid tradition in the Dominican Republic, began on January 24 and festivities will continue every Sunday during the month of February.

The colorful costumes and hand-made devil masks are one of the carnival’s main attractions.

Thousands of national and international visitors visit La Vega, situated 1.5 hours north of Santo Domingo, during February.

Puerto Plata

Puerto Plata’s Carnival, on the country’s North Coast, was launched on January 26 with the crowning of King Momo.

The event is organized by the Puerto Plata’s Carnival Union and the town’s City Hall. Festivities are also held every Sunday in February in Puerto Plata seaside boulevard.
