The President of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), Miguel Vargas, reported yesterday that in its preliminary balance on tax reform, that opposition organization was concerned that measures proposed by President Danilo Medina would strike the savings, lesionarían consumption, would affect employment, the informal economy and business competitiveness.

Vargas said that including these measures perturbarían the development of social service agencies and non-profit, in all of which the poor and the middle class are hardest.

"The PRD expects the President to hear the demands made by broad sectors of society so that tax reform has a comprehensive character, that cut the expense and improve the quality of spending." "That benefit, and which does not affect people, as it should be the main objective of good governance," says.

Said that the Organization will consider in detail the proposal of reform Attorney made by President Medina, to raise its position in a deeper way. But "we deplore that the Medina President has made a proposal that reiterates what he has always done: load on the shoulders of the people the excesses and the wastage of staff", said Vargas.

Yesterday the representative presented to the economic and Social Council and legislators from the LDP a project of tax reform that broadens the base of the ITBIS up to an amount of 18%; a tax on dividends from the free zones up to 10%, and raise 2.5 to 5% tax for sales that make the companies of this sector in the country.

Also raise from 7 to 15% tax to alcoholic beverages; removed the exemption from the income tax double salary to salaries that exceed the RD$ 33 thousand monthly, among others.
